The youth empowerment initiatives by the JK Centre for Peace and Justice Foundation (JKCPJ) are designed to build a generation of confident, informed, and socially responsible young leaders across Jammu & Kashmir. These programmes focus on leadership development, civic awareness, skill-building, and digital access, ensuring that young people are equipped with the tools and opportunities needed to actively participate in society and governance.
At the core of these efforts is the Youth Empowerment Leadership Program, which aims to nurture confident and resilient youth leaders. Through structured training, mentorship, and engagement activities, participants develop leadership skills, critical thinking abilities, and a deeper understanding of social and governance issues. The programme encourages young individuals to take initiative, lead community efforts, and contribute meaningfully to public life.
Complementing this is the RTI (Right to Information) Training Programme, which empowers youth with the knowledge and practical skills to use transparency laws as a tool for accountability. Participants learn how to file RTI applications, understand governance processes, and engage with public institutions to address grassroots concerns. This initiative strengthens democratic participation by enabling young citizens to actively question and monitor public systems.
The Volunteer Program serves as a hands-on platform for youth to gain practical experience in community work, policy engagement, and organizational activities. Volunteers receive structured training, professional exposure, and opportunities to work on real-world projects, allowing them to build both skills and networks. The programme also creates a strong ecosystem of motivated young individuals committed to social change.
In addition, JKCPJ has established AI Libraries and Learning Centres to bridge the digital divide and provide underprivileged students with access to modern learning tools. These centres offer exposure to digital education, artificial intelligence, and technology-driven learning resources, enabling youth from marginalized backgrounds to develop future-ready skills.
The Skill Development Programs further strengthen youth capacity by offering training in areas such as video editing, artificial intelligence, communication, and content creation. These programmes are designed to enhance employability, encourage creativity, and prepare young individuals for emerging career opportunities in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Together, these initiatives form an integrated approach to youth development, combining leadership, civic engagement, technical skills, and grassroots participation. By doing so, JKCPJ is creating pathways for young people to grow into active contributors to society and governance.
Impact:
The youth empowerment initiatives have demonstrated significant reach and outcomes across multiple programme areas.
A total of 4 leadership programmes have been conducted, engaging over 100 young participants and helping them develop essential leadership and decision-making skills.
Through 3 RTI training programmes, more than 60 youth have been trained in using transparency laws to promote accountability and civic engagement.
The Volunteer Program has trained over 500 individuals, with more than 200 active volunteers currently contributing to various initiatives and community efforts.
AI Libraries and Centres have provided access to digital learning resources for over 150 youth, particularly benefiting students from underprivileged backgrounds.
A notable success story emerging from these initiatives is Aga Syed Muntazir, who progressed from being a participant in the JKCPJ Leadership Program to becoming a winning MLA candidate from Budgam, reflecting the programme’s long-term impact on leadership development and civic participation.
Mission:
The mission of JKCPJ’s youth empowerment initiatives is to equip young people in Jammu & Kashmir with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities required to become confident leaders, active citizens, and change-makers. The programmes aim to foster a culture of civic responsibility, transparency, and innovation by integrating leadership development, legal awareness, and skill-building into a unified framework.
A key objective of the mission is to address the gap in access to quality training, mentorship, and digital resources, particularly for youth from underserved communities. By providing structured platforms for learning and engagement, the initiatives enable young individuals to translate their potential into meaningful action in both community and institutional spaces.
At the same time, the programmes are designed to strengthen democratic participation by encouraging youth to engage with governance processes, advocate for accountability, and contribute to policy dialogue. Through this approach, JKCPJ seeks to create a generation that is not only skilled but also socially conscious and civically engaged.
Vision:
The vision of these youth empowerment initiatives is to build a strong and inclusive ecosystem that nurtures youth leadership, innovation, and civic engagement across Jammu & Kashmir.
Over the coming years, the programmes aim to expand their reach to thousands of young individuals across diverse regions, with a focus on scaling leadership training, increasing access to digital learning centres, and strengthening volunteer networks. The initiative also envisions creating advanced skill development hubs that prepare youth for emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, digital media, and public policy.
In the long term, the vision is to institutionalize youth engagement as a core component of governance and development in the region. By empowering young people with the right tools, exposure, and opportunities, JKCPJ aims to contribute to a future where youth play a central role in shaping policy, driving innovation, and strengthening democratic processes in Jammu & Kashmir.
